I started lifting over ten years ago and what I've found is that bench pressing is not as hard as some people make it out to be. I can't say what works for other people but this is what's worked for me. I stopped working out for a while because I was too busy working two jobs, but have now got back into the swing of things.
It’s hard at first when you stop working out for some time, you lose a lot of the power that you had before when you were in high school. I would say that when I first started lifting again I could only max about 20 percent of what I had lifted before.
Back in high school I used to max about 285lbs which isn’t much to brag about, but I was only about 185. So it wasn’t too bad. However when I first started lifting again a few months ago things were a little different. I had gained some weight and my bench when down. I was about 210 and my max had went down to about 230. Eventually I got it back up to about to about 250, but I still wasn’t happy with that. I wanted to know that I was still at least as strong as I was in high school.
I had lost a lot of strength and some how I wasn’t able to increase my max as easily as I did in before. So I started to research how to improve my bench press online and found some pretty interesting “theories,” however most of what I found out is what I already knew.
Then I found an e-book that seemed pretty interesting. It promised to improve my bench press by 51 pounds in 3 weeks. It seemed to good to be true, but it offered a 60 day money back guarantee so I said, what the heck I’ll give it a try. After all, if anything I figured it would at least allow me to get back to what I was lifting before. So I tried it. I was shocked with the results. After about 5 weeks I had improved my max to 290lbs!
It may not seem like much but that’s 5 pounds more than what I was lifting in high school, so that was big for me. After about another month of using the techniques in the book I was able to improve my bench up to 300lbs. I wasn’t doing anything fancy, I was just sticking to the simple routine I found in the book. It worked for me an I’d recommend giving it a try if you're serious about improving your bench. You can get the book Here .
